SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio community is mourning the loss of beloved Spurs superfan Sovia Lauriano.
Lauriano was known for her over-the-top fan regalia that earned her the nickname “The Spurs Lady.” The 25-year season ticket holder stood out from the crowd with her campy hats and custom T-shirts for every occasion. She owned tons of Spurs regalia, including a white and black truck bearing the autographs of several Spurs players.
San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenburg paid tribute to Lauriano in a post on X, calling her “an irreplaceable thread in the fabric of our community.”
Spectrum News 1’s Jose Arredondo profiled Lauriano in 2023 when the Spurs selected Victor Wembanyama as their first round draft pick. In that story, Lauriano revealed she had undergone triple bypass surgery and flatlined four times. According to a report from KSAT, a family member said Lauriano died from a heart attack.
Arredondo thanked Lauriano for bringing “so much joy” to the Spurs Nation in a post to X.
The San Antonio Spurs organization remembered Lauriano as embodying “the spirit of a true fan” in a post to Instagram.
