AUSTIN, Texas — Barrington Way in Austin looks like most streets around town. But when October rolls around, one house on the block turns into a Halloween haunt.

“There was a home in my husband’s neighborhood that was the cool home to go to. That’s why he wanted to be the cool home on the block,” said homeowner Sabrina Butler.

Butler and her husband have been decorating the outside of their home for Halloween for years. The first year, however, not many ghosts and goblins showed up.

“We had our bag of candy ready for the kids and we only had five trick-or-treaters!” said Butler.

But every year after that, the creepiness caught on.

“So, the next year we had 50 kids, then 200, then 500,” she said.

Now the Butlers have around 2,000 trick-or-treaters show up Halloween night. Each year is a different theme.

“This year we wanted to go back to old-school, back to basics: ghosts, goblins, witches, skeletons and pumpkins. A neighborhood band is going to play on a big stage we’ve built for them and they’re going to be playing Halloween night,” said Butler.

Halloween has turned into a huge event on Barrington Way. Neighbors say each year, more and more people decorate their front lawns.

“It turns into a huge neighborhood block party which we love,” said Butler.
