SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio International Airport employee died Friday evening after being “ingested” into a plane’s engine, according to CNN.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating and gathering information on the event. According to CNN, Delta Flight 1111 had arrived at San Antonio airport Friday evening from Los Angeles International Airport and was heading to its gate when the employee was ingested into the plane’s engine.
“We are deeply saddened by this incident and are working with authorities as they begin their investigation. We will share more information as details become available,” San Antonio International public relations manager Tonya Hope said in a statement.
In a statement released by Delta Air Lines to CNN, a spokesperson said the airline is “heartbroken and grieving the loss of an aviation family member’s life in San Antonio.”
Another airport employee had also previously died after being ingested into an aircraft at the Montgomery Regional Airport in Alabama last New Year's Eve.
