SAN ANTONIO — It’s been keyed as the largest Kosher BBQ Championship in the country, and its eighth annual cookoff is set to be in San Antonio soon. Congregation Agudas Achim presents the all-you-can-eat event on Nov. 6.

The competition challenges 20 teams of Jewish pit masters in creating Kosher-based barbecue meals. They’ll be serving up 2,000 pounds of kosher brisket, chickens, fish and beans — all provided by H-E-B. Winners walk away with a “Coveted Belt Buckle memorializing the BBQ, a grand prize check of $2,000 and bragging rights for a year,” according to its site.

Whoever reigns victorious in the People’s Choice competition wins a $250 cash donation to the charity of the team’s choice.

Sign up teams now for a chance to take part in the cookoff competition. Take a look at contest rules.

Invite your family and friends to eat all they can withstand. There’ll be hot dog, jalapeño and pickle-eating contests; children activities in the Kiddie Korral; music and dancing, etc.

Be sure to arrive as early as possible to snag some barbecue. It’s only available while it lasts.
