SAN ANTONIO — Last year, the City of San Antonio closed all parks for Easter weekend during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic that kept many people indoors. In the effort to return to normalcy, parks and trails will be open this year.

However, camping will still not be permitted. More than 250 parks will be open daily from 5 a.m.-11 p.m., while natural areas and greenway trails will be open from sunrise to sunset.

“We’re excited that households will be able to enjoy parks during Easter weekend this year. While our community is making positive strides in the fight against COVID-19, it’s important to continue to be vigilant and follow health guidelines such as wearing masks and physically distancing,” said Homer Garcia III, director of Parks and Recreation.

The department asks visitors to follow the Leave No Trace principle of Pack It In/Pack It Out. Whatever items packed to bring to the park, must be packed when leaving.

The Parks Community Engagement Team and volunteers will be at parks over the weekend handing out masks, sanitizer, and extra trash bags to encourage proper trash disposal and recycling. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up and help through saparksandrec.com.
