AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas has decided to invite a limited number of family and friends into Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium to celebrate the graduating Class of 2021.

Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, each graduate will have a limited number of seats for guests. Tickers will be required. The university said in a letter to students that if guidelines change, additional tickets will become available.

The ceremony will include the traditional Tower lighting and fireworks display, and it will be streamed live and recorded.

Each college and school will host ceremonial moments of personal recognition for each undergraduate degree candidate between May 20 and May 22.

“Our goal is to provide an exciting and memorable experience that celebrates your accomplishments and contributions. The safety of our students, visitors and the staff who produce these events is imperative, and please know that we will take every step to conduct these events in a way that is safe and responsible.” Interim Vice President and Provost Dan Jaff said in the letter.

The university will evaluate these plans and make adjustments based on health conditions on three dates: March 15, April 15 and May 10. The goal is to hold in-person activities, but if public health conditions do not allow that, activities will be in online-only formats.
