AUSTIN, Texas — A winter storm passing through Central Texas has prompted Austin Emergency Management to open cold weather shelters on Sunday night.

According to the Twitter post, single adults can access shelter at the Central Library (710 W Cesar Chavez) between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Families who need shelter will have access at the Downtown Salvation Army Shelter (501 E. 8th Street) starting at 6 p.m.

A health screening for COVID-19 will be done during registration and temperatures will be checked. For more information call the 24/7 hotline: 512-305-4233.

Temperatures are expected to hover around freezing (32 degrees) through Sunday night in Austin.
