DALLAS – A Texas-based movie theater company has decided to temporarily shutter the doors of six locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area amid the coronavirus pandemic and lack of new movie releases.
Alamo Drafthouse announced Wednesday that upcoming screenings at Alamo Drafthouse Lake Highlands and Alamo Drafthouse Richardson were canceled. Any guests who purchased tickets are expected to receive a refund in the coming days.
According to multiple sources, the company had already closed four out of six of its locations in the DFW area before coming to the decision to close the final two.
Chief Executive Officer Bill DiGaetano said this in a statement:
“This is a terribly difficult and disappointing decision, but we’re hopeful that by pausing now, we’ll be able to reopen all six of our DFW franchise locations once a steady stream of new releases resumes.
To our team members who have returned to us over the past six weeks – thank you so much. Your efforts created the safest and most enjoyable cinematic experience possible in this area, and we hope that this will be a very brief hiatus.
To our film-loving guests and friends in the Dallas/Fort Worth area – your support has meant so much to all of us. We’ll be back.”
