TEXAS -- As the coronavirus has worsened significantly in Texas, the tables have turned, and other states are now taking preventative measures when it comes to residents of the Lone Star State.

  • Texans visiting New York, New Jersey and Connecticut must quarantine for 14 days

  • Quarantine order goes into effect at 12 a.m. Thursday 

  • Quarantine order includes other states with high COVID-19 rates including Arizona and North Carolina 

  • Gov. Abbott in March put similar quarantine order in effect in Texas for Detroit, New Orleans 

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo Wednesday announced Texans arriving in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut will have to self-quarantine for a period of 14 days.

Texas is not the only state. Other states with high COVID-19 rates on the list include Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Arizona, Washington, Florida and Utah.

The travel quarantine is set to go into effect Thursday at 12 a.m.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in March imposed the same travel quarantine on people arriving from Detroit, New Orleans and other cities.

Texas on Tuesday reported more than 5,400 new cases of the novel coronavirus, a record, as well as record hospitalizations.

Gov. Abbott has so far not moved to pause or slow down the reopening of the state’s economy but has empowered local leaders to place tighter restrictions on gatherings.
