SAN ANTONIO – The director of the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District, Dr. Dawn Emerick, claimed the second wave of coronavirus is taking shape in the Alamo City, announced Thursday during a daily briefing.

The number of cases has been slowing ticking upward since the beginning of the outbreak in early March. On Thursday, the city saw one of its largest jumps as 192 cases were added, totaling 3,840 cases. Two new deaths were also announced, totaling 82 deaths for the nation’s seventh-largest city.
“We are entering a second wave,” Emerick said.
The United States as a whole surpassed 2 million confirmed cases this week as more states continue to lift their lockdowns.
Mayor Ron Nirenberg urged the community to continue social distancing and to wear face masks. Emerick added that there is a rise in symptomatic patients and both officials stated that symptomatic people should get tested.

Gov. Gregg Abbott announced Phase 3 on June 3, allowing nearly all businesses to operate at 50 percent capacity. Restaurants are able expand to 75 percent capacity beginning June 12.
In addition to reopenings of businesses, protests across the nation have broken out amid reaction to deadly police brutality. Emerick said the results of any coronavirus spread during these protests should be detectable by next week.
