NATIONWIDE – The U.S. Marine Corps announced Friday strict guidelines for removing displays of the Confederate flag.

The ban includes bumper stickers, clothing, mugs, posters and flags.

In an infographic posted to Twitter, the military branch said “the Confederate battle flag has all too often been co-opted by violent extremists and racist groups whose divisive beliefs have no place in our Corps.”

The Marine Corps also said it will remove all Confederate flag displays from all installation public spaces and work areas.

In April, top Marine Gen. David Berger banned the display of the Confederate flag and other such symbols. The announcement Friday formalizes the ban.

According to Military.com, no other branch has taken such action.
