SAN ANTONIO -- Two new drive-thru COVID-19 testing locations will open this week on the West and South sides of San Antonio, the city announced Thursday.

The new test sites seek to provide accessible testing in underserved and minority communities.

Texas MedClinic Drive-Thru Test Site

This location will open on Thursday, April 23, 9 a.m. at 2530 SW Military. This is the only Texas MedClinic location where drive-thru testing is offered. Hours of operation for this location will be seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Similar to the process at Freeman Coliseum, patients call 210-233-5970 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to be screened. If a COVID-19 test is needed, the screener will schedule the test at either Freeman Coliseum or this Texas MedClinic location.

The COVID-19 test is free and is intended to serve those who do not have health insurance.

Walmart Drive-Thru Test Site

This location will operate in the store parking lot located at 8923 W Military Drive beginning on Saturday, April 25. Testing at this site is reserved for those who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 plus all health care providers and first responders, whether or not they are exhibiting symptoms.

Those eligible for testing can sign up for an appointment via eTrueNorth. There is no out-of-pocket cost. The site will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week, weather permitting, and will test anyone who may be exhibiting symptoms of the virus.

Texas MedClinic – In Office Visit

To be tested for COVID-19 at a Texas MedClinic, visit the Texas MedClinic website and review their registration process and evaluation screening quiz.

Texas MedClinic does not currently require an appointment, but recommend that patients check in online or at their kiosk. After checking in, patients will be asked to wait in their vehicles to be seen for your test, unless they are not medically stable.

Alamo City Urgent Care

A medical assessment by one of their providers is required. Fees will apply but should be covered by most commercial insurance plans. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturdays, closed on Sunday.

CommuniCare

A patient may be able to be tested for COVID-19 at a CommuniCare clinic if they meet the following criteria:

  • Established CommuniCare patient
  • Experiencing COVID-19 symptoms (fever, cough, and shortness of breath)
  • Meets the current testing criteria, which is available on their website or call 210-233-7000.
