Selena was the subject of San Antonio photographer John Dyer’s photo assignments for the cover of Más Magazine in 1992 and again for Texas Monthly in 1995, just months before she died.

The Más Magazine publication was interested in profiling the young Texas singer who was starting to make a name for herself, winning the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist nine years running. In early 1995, Texas Monthly wanted to do a spread on Selena as well.

For the shoot, Selena and Dyer met at the Majestic Theatre in downtown San Antonio. Between the time Dyer photographed her at the Majestic Theatre and the date of the Texas Monthly article, Selena was killed at age 23.
