SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Fire Department released an explainer video on Friday, focusing on teaching children how to make a fire escape plan.
- Child voices the basics of a fire escape plan
- Features Sparky the Fire Dog and Spurs' mascot
This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign is, “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!”
The campaign works to educate everyone about the small but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe.
According to Fire Chief Charles Hood: “In a home fire, you may have as little as one or two minutes to escape from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Escape planning and practice can help everyone get out as safely as possible.”
For Fire Prevention Week 2019, SAFD produced short video with a child voicing the basics of a fire escape plan, featuring Sparky the Fire Dog and Spurs’ mascot The Coyote.
“This short and humorous video will not only teach children the basics of a good escape plan, but it is our hope that it will inspire them to convince their parents to learn and practice the plan with them. Our thanks to the Spurs organization for supporting fire safety education for the residents of San Antonio,” Hood said.
