BOERNE, Texas – A police officer was struck by a pickup following a Boerne High School football game on Friday night.
- Directing traffic out of north entrance
- Was wearing traffic vest
- Injuries to arm and head
According to a Facebook post from the police department, Officer Michele Van Stavern was standing in the 100 block of N. Esser Road directing traffic out from the north entrance of Boerne High School/Stadium after the Champion High School Football game around 10 p.m.
Stavern was wearing a high-visibility traffic vest and holding a wand flashlight to direct traffic.
Andrew Harris, 35 years old, was traveling southbound on N. Esser in his Ford F150 pick-up truck when he struck the officer.
Stavern had serious injuries to her left arm and head and was transported by Kendall County EMS to University Hospital.
Harris stopped at the scene and was arrested by a DPS Trooper who was investigating the crash. He is being charged with intoxication assault and being held at the Kendall County Jail.
At the time of the post, Stavern was in stable condition.
Stavern is the school resource officer assigned to Boerne Middle School North and has worked for the Boerne Police Department for about four years. The department asks the community to keep her and her family in your prayers.
