SAN ANTONIO – A public tribute is planned at Lila Cockrell Theatre on September 5 to honor the life of San Antonio’s former first female mayor.

  • Served 10 years on city council
  • 15 years for San Antonio Parks Foundation
  • Public visitation planned for September 3

Lila Cockrell died this week, sparking a surge of remembrance throughout the San Antonio community. Mayor Ron Nirenberg has even ordered flags to be flown at half-staff to honor her.

Cockrell was remembered for breaking diversity barrios in city government, as she served 10 years on city council and 15 years as the president of the San Antonio Parks Foundation, as well as serving in numerous other leadership positions.

 

There will also be a public visitation on September 3 at 6 p.m. at the Mission Park Funeral Chapel North. A private memorial service is planned for the morning of September 5.
