SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio executive staffers laid almost $4 million of new spending in a City Council Special Session Tuesday.
What is earmarked for new monies:
- New domestic violence programs
- Additional homeless initiatives
- Paid Sick Leave Ordinance
- Migrant Resource Center
If approved for the 2020 budget, the city is pushing $1 million forward to support domestic violence programs. Around $330,000 goes to help fund the Migrant Resource Center for at least three months. Another $1 million will head to Haven for Hope families in transition.

More than $500,000 is dedicated to help the implementation and enforcement of the Paid Sick Leave Ordinance if the newly adopted city policy goes through.

The city will spend $600,000 for Trauma Care Certification, which is financial support for 20 organizations that helps approximately 95,000 kids dealing with trauma. Assistant City Manager Colleen Bridger laid out details of the Trauma Care Certification. She told the council public dollars are needed to help treat kids who have experienced abuse or a traumatic event.
Tuesday's Trauma Care presentation is part of the proposed $43 million Health Department budget. The Migrant Resource Center presentation showed 29,000 immigrants have been served since opening in end of March.
Around 20,000 of those needed a place to sleep for at least one night. Advocates say, the city is doing the right thing helping the migrant population
"People are enduring a lot of things. They're making a lot of sacrifices, and I believe that for those people we need to support them to help them survive the current political climate,” said Anayanse Garza.
The San Antonio City Council plans to have the $2.9 billion budget approved by the middle of September.
