BANDERA COUNTY, Texas – The Banda County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a positive rabies test in a raccoon on Wednesday.
- Monitor pets
- No feeding of unvaccinated animals
- Report stray and suspects animal
The incident took place in the 200 block of Doe Creek Road. It is the fifth confirmed case of rabies within Bandera County this year.
Area residents are asked to be extremely cautious around wild animals, and to closely monitor their pets. This includes no outside feeding and no handling of any animal that has not been vaccinated against the rabies virus.
In 2018, there were 30 reports or rabid Raccoons in Texas. There where zero confirmed animal rabies cases in Bandera in 2018.

Here is a list of confirmed rabies cases in the county by the sheriff’s office:
- June 26: A raccoon tested positive for the rabies virus in the 1400 block of State Highway 16 North.
- June 05: A raccoon tested positive for the rabies virus in the 300 block of Diana Dr., located in the FM 3240 (Ridge Route).
- May 24: A fox tested positive for the rabies virus in the 300 Block of Lakeshore Lane, located in the Lake Medina Shores/Wharton’s Dock area of Bandera.
- April 24: A raccoon tested positive for the rabies virus in the 300 block of Knollwood Circle, located within the Flying L subdivision.
