In 2019, $5 million was given to local students for higher education goals. The scholarship money was provided by local philanthropists including Grammy Award-winning singer Vikki Carr, former San Antonio Spur David Robinson and his son David Robinson Jr.
A special reception was held where Carr and Robinson Jr. spoke to students and shared their insights on the importance of higher education.
The San Antonio Area Foundation hosted the event.
Over the seven-year period from 2013-2019, thousands of students in the greater San Antonio area received more than $23 million in scholarships through the funds managed by the Area Foundation.
This year set a new record, surpassing 2018’s previous record of $4.8 million awarded to 748 students.
