SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio International Airport has a new way to engage travelers while they wait for a flight or luggage at the baggage claim.

  • Informational decals on the floor around the airport
  • Augmented reality can be accessed through an app
  • Several famous figures from the Battle of the Alamo

Passengers will be able to access augmented reality through informational decals on the floor just by using an app on their mobile device.

The exhibit allows travelers to engage with some of the most famous figures in San Antonio’s history including the Battle of the Alamo’s Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna and many other figures.

“It actually gets your attention because it’s in 3D. You can take a selfie with it, take a picture with it. You can put your hands on character and it has audio so you can really learn a lot about Texas history,” SAT Public Relation Manager Tony Hope said.

It is the first time the airport has introduced this type of augmented reality technology to passengers.

“We feel like this is just the beginning of what we can do with technology here at the airport. We’ve introduced music, we’ve introduced art, and now it’s time to introduce technology,” Hope said.
