SAN MARCOS -- The Texas State University System Board of Regents approved a 10-year lease on Thursday between Texas State University and Kerbey Lane Cafe, Inc., bringing the popular Austin-based restaurant to San Marcos.
- Will be located on San Marcos River
- Restuarant was founded in 1980
- Serves Greater Austin region
Kerbey Lane Cafe will move into a university-owned restaurant facility located on the San Marcos River. The location currently houses a Saltgrass Steakhouse but the lease agreement will expire at the end of the current term on December 31.
"The setting of the university’s restaurant at the spillway of the Spring Lake Dam is one of the most unique and picturesque sites in Central Texas," Eric Algoe, vice president for Finance and Support Services at Texas State said.
Founded in 1980, Kerbey Lane Cafe currently operates eight locations in the Austin area. The family-owned restaurants are known for serving all-day breakfasts, and popular menu offerings include giant pancakes, Eggs Francisco, the Paris Texas Platter and Kerbey Queso.
"The university is very happy to be bringing a restaurant to San Marcos that will have great appeal to our students and to the entire San Marcos community," Algoe added.
The 10-year contract with Kerbey Lane Cafe includes two five-year renewal options. The company currently employs more than 700 people throughout the Greater Austin region.
"San Marcos is a community we have been wanting to serve for many years, and because we wanted to do it right, we’ve taken our time finding just the right location, and this is it," CEO of Kerbey Lane Cafe Mason Ayer said.
