SAN ANTONIO -- Artist Analy Diego, the Westside Development Corporation, and other sponsors will unveil a mural of Henry B. Gonzalez in celebration of his 102nd Birthday on Wednesday, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

  • Re-creation of another mural destroyed in December 2017
  • Mayor Ron Nirenberg , Councilman Robert C Treviño and others will share remarks
  • A panel discussion on his life will also happen

“As most of us know, San Antonio was recently named the fastest growing city in the nation. Just as our city grows and evolves, so do its inhabitants. It is important to keep in mind that as we grow and continue shaping our beloved city, its true value will be defined not only by what we create, but by what we decide to keep,” Diego said.

The mural is a re-creation of the original artwork by Artist Ronald Rocha, formerly hung at Estela’s Mexican Restaurant on the West Side of San Antonio. The original artwork was destroyed along with two other murals by the new owner in December 2017.

“The recreation of the beautiful mural of a man who helped shape our city, originally created by artist Ronald Rocha is one of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on, and I’m forever grateful for the opportunity,” Diego added.

The unveiling of the new mural will feature keynote remarks by Mayor Ron Nirenberg, Councilman Robert C Treviño, and several other community leaders.

There will also be a panel discussion on “The Life and Contributions of Henry B. Gonzalez” with Dr. Maggie Rivas, Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert, Dr. William Elizondo and former Rep. Charlie Gonzalez.

“It is important to preserve the impactful and legacy works created by our talented San Antonians. In memory of Henry B. Gonzalez, we are honored to support Analy Diego in the re-creating of this historic mural and hope the community will join us in recognizing the great impact Henry B. Gonzalez had in our city,” President/CEO of the WDC Leonard Rodriguez said.
