BEXAR COUNTY, Texas -- Bexar County announced Wednesday that it has been awarded a five-year, $2.125 million grant from the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
- Doubles the funds already available
- Allows program to be fully staffed plus additional training
- Program is first of its kind in the state
The grant more than doubles the funds available to the Early Intervention Program and will allow the program to be fully staffed with various treatment options for the parents and infants and toddlers.
It will also allow for numerous training and technical assistance opportunities for the judge, court staff and treatment providers.
The Bexar County Early Intervention Program is part of a larger Children’s Court initiative that is the first of its kind in the state and second in the nation.
It is a court system that was designed through “the eyes of a child” and was named “Model for the Nation” by the William and Mary Law School Courtroom 21 Project. The Early Intervention Program – also known as the Baby Court – is modeled after the nationally-recognized Family Drug Treatment Court model and the Safe Babies Court Team.
The Early Intervention Program is currently funded by Bexar County and funds raised by several foundations.
