SAN ANTONIO — Animal Care Services is trying to save a grossly overweight doberman that clocks in at a whopping 180 pounds.
- Doberman in care very overweight
- Owner could no longer care for animal
- Dog needs a home
The 5-year-old dog, named Papa by shelter staff, was surrendered to ACS by his owner who said he could no longer care for him.
Papa is more than twice the weight of a normal size male doberman, which typically weigh about 85 pounds. ACS said Papa also is suffering from long-term ear infections and has difficulty moving around because of his size.
In 2014, ACS treated a 147-pound doberman named Bear who eventually found a home with a Texas Doberman Rescue. Bear has been able to shed a large amount of weight in his new home, and ACS is hopeful Papa will be able to go on a similar weight-loss journey.
