NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – A man is dead after being electrocuted at the First Baptist Church in New Braunfels early Thursday morning.

  • Long pole touched nearby power lines
  • Paramedics began life-saving procedures immediately
  • Pronounced dead at Christus San Rosa Hospital

According to police, officers and paramedics responded to a man who received an electrical shock and was unconscious around 6:45 a.m. in the 700 block of Cross Street.

When they arrived, they found a man, identified as 53-year-old William Alston, lying in the street. Alston was part of a team of contractors hired to wash the exterior windows of the church. The long pole he was using came into contact with nearby power lines, sending an electric shock down the pole and into the hands of Alston.

Paramedics began life-saving procedures on him immediately and he was transported to the hospital.

He was later pronounced dead at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital – News Braunfels.

Officers closed down Cross Street for about an hour while crews checked the power lines in the area. The road was reopened and given an all-clear around 8:00 a.m.
