SAN ANTONIO -- LEGOLAND Discovery Center opened its doors Friday morning at the Shops at Rivercenter, celebrating the opening by knocking down a giant LEGO® brick wall and chanting “VIVA San Antonio!”

  • Opened in Fiesta style with mariachi band
  • Features 10 LEGO® play zones
  • Offers interactive fun for kids ages 3 to 10

In Fiesta style, a mariachi band comprised of 20 students from McAuliffe Middle School performed at the event, accompanied by mascots Sharky and Bertie, who held a dance-off.

To complete the LEGO® fiesta extravaganza, 210 balloons dropped from the ceiling of the Shops at Rivercenter, marking the opening of the 12th LEGOLAND Discovery Center in North America.

“We are excited for families and visitors across San Antonio and Texas to experience the ultimate indoor LEGO® playground,” Jeremy Aguillen, General Manager of LEGOLAND Discovery Center San Antonio and SEA LIFE Aquarium said. “LEGOLAND Discovery Center and SEA LIFE Aquarium will provide high-quality, educational and interactive fun for kids and families. The attractions will add to the diversity of hands-on experiences available to San Antonio residents and visitors.”

Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert and Texas Travel Industries Association CEO, Dan Decker, also spoke at the grand opening, adding that the attraction is a wonderful addition to the education offerings for local students, and that the growth of the city’s tourism industry will be greatly impacted by the opening.

Specifically conceived and designed from a child’s perspective, LEGOLAND Discovery Center features 10 themed LEGO® play zones, including a 4D cinema, two LEGO-themed rides, and a Build and Test area.

The attraction also features MINILAND San Antonio, a replica of the city made of over 1.5 million LEGO® bricks. Kevin Hintz, Master Model Builder San Antonio, will lead master classes and workshops for kids at the Creative Workshop, a space for kids to learn LEGO® building concepts.

The attraction offers interactive fun for kids ages 3 to 10.

SEA LIFE Aquarium will open alongside LEGOLAND Discovery Center this summer. Annual Passes for LEGOLAND Discovery Center and SEA LIFE Aquarium are also available for purchase through the attraction websites.
