SAN ANTONIO – In the annual State of the City address Friday morning, Mayor Ron Nirenberg said “I’m proud to report that San Antonio is stronger than ever.”
- Focused on economic growth and technology advances
- Over 40,000 jobs added in two years
- Ongoing work on climate, multimodal transportation and affordable housing
The mayor focused on recognizing the city’s unemployment rate and technology development.
Nirenberg noted that the city’s unemployment rate is below the Texas and national averages, as the city added over 40,000 jobs in the past two years.
The economic development efforts pf national credit union Pen Fed, Victory Capital and the Accenture Federal Services expansion will bring more than 1,400 new jobs the city.
“We’re working together on a single mission and that is to create high-paying jobs and the strongest, most equitable economy in the country,” Nirenberg said
He added that city leaders and local economic development officials are focused on industries of the future, including cybersecurity, information technology, bioscience and health care, aerospace and advanced manufacturing.
San Antonio ranks fourth out of the top 100 metros for economic growth.
The mayor also praised the San Antonio Spurs' 22nd consecutive trip to the playoffs, military science and health advances, and local university expansion.
For the future, Nirenberg emphasized focus on ConnectSA, an initiative for more sidewalks and overall safer city for pedestrians and cyclists.
The speech was delivered at a luncheon sponsored by the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber, the Alamo City Black Chamber and the Alamo Asian Chamber.
