AUSTIN, Texas — Attorney Justin Nelson, announced today he is filing preliminary paperwork seeking the democratic nomination for Texas attorney general. He is the first to announce plans to challenge current Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton.

“Justice is for all," Nelson said. "Nobody is above the law. Texans can do better than our indicted Attorney General who is charged with criminal fraud.”

Prosecutors recently closed a bribery investigation against Paxton. However he still faces felony security charges in a separate case.

An official launch of Nelson's campaign will be announced at a later date.

“As attorney general, I will protect Texans against special interests, corruption, and fraud.” Nelson said. “Texas needs an Attorney General who will fight for working families and who recognizes the great diversity of our state.”

A Houston native, Nelson currently lives in Austin and is a partner at Susman Godfrey LLP, where he practices civil litigation. Previously, he was a clerk for Supreme Court Justice, Sandra Day O’Connor and 4th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge, J. Harvie Wilkinson.

Nelson is the founder and former president of One Nation One Vote, a nonprofit aiming to improve democracy.
