In the wake of our overnight cold front, temperatures will be chilly today! It’s coat weather for sure! Skies will be gorgeous, though. Northerly winds remain gusty most of the day and give the outside conditions an extra bite. Monday and Tuesday temperatures recover a bit before all warmth is lost the rest of the week. Prepare yourself for winter’s bite as Texas takes a polar plunge Tuesday night through Friday morning with subfreezing low temperatures across the state.

A North Texas county has declared a state of disaster due to heightened levels of harmful per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the environment that officials say have killed fish and cattle in their community.
2. New York Stock Exchange to launch NYSE Texas
Pending regulatory approval, NYSE said it plans to reincorporate NYSE Chicago in Texas and rename it NYSE Texas. NYSE Texas will be a fully electronic equities exchange, and its headquarters will be in Dallas.
3. 5 injured in explosion at bus operations near El Paso airport
Five people were injured Tuesday in an explosion in the maintenance area of Sun Metro Transit Operations Center, according to the El Paso Fire Department Chief.
4. Texas Senate unanimously approves raising property tax exemption
The Texas Senate on Thursday unanimously voted for a proposal that would give homeowners in the state a larger break on their property tax bills.
5. Bristling at 'Gulf of Mexico' name change on maps, Mexico says it might sue Google
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Thursday that her government wouldn't rule out filing a civil lawsuit against Google if it maintains its stance of calling the stretch of sea between northeastern Mexico and the southeastern United States the “Gulf of America.”
6. Mark Cuban feuds with fans as unrest continues in Dallas
Some small protests had been held following the Luka Doncic trade outside of the American Airlines Center for days on end, but the situation intensified when majority owner Patrick Dumont said, “If you look at the greats in the league, the people you and I grew up with — Jordan, Bird, Kobe, Shaq — they worked really hard, every day with a singular focus to win. And if you don’t have that, it doesn’t work… you shouldn’t be a part of the Dallas Mavericks.”

1. U.S. eggs prices hit a record high of $4.95 and are likely to keep climbing
The latest monthly consumer price index showed that the average price of a dozen Grade A eggs in U.S. cities reached $4.95 in January, eclipsing the previous record of $4.82 set two years earlier and more than double the low of $2.04 that was recorded in August 2023. As egg prices continue to soar due to the ongoing bird flu outbreak, grocers like Trader Joe's have limited the numbers of eggs customers can buy each day.
A Look Ahead
This weekend marks four years since a winter storm hit Texas with record-breaking snow, ice and over six days of freezing temperatures. The 2021 freeze decimated state infrastructure, causing millions of Texans to be without power for days. At least 246 of people died due to the storm.
