GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — Grand Prairie residents are being asked not to drink the city’s water because of a foaming agent detected in the water, according to city officials.

According to Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen, firefighting foam flowed into the water system.

Currently, no reports of serious adverse medical concerns from area residents stemming from the water advisory.

The advisory remains in place until further notice. Residents should not to use tap water for any purpose other than flushing.

The City received a complaint about the water on Tuesday, Sept. 3. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality was notified of the incident and is collecting samples from the water distribution system as needed.

A new water bottle distribution station will be in place at Lone Star Park, at 1000 Lone Star Parkway, Grand Prairie, TX 75050. Water distribution will continue overnight and into tomorrow.

Due to water contamination detected late Tuesday night, the following facilities will be closed Wednesday:

  • Kirby Creek Natatorium
  • Prairie Lakes Golf Course (including Crown’s)
  • Ruthe Jackson Center
  • Dalworth Recreation Center
  • Charley Taylor Recreation Center
  • Veterans Event Center
  • Park restrooms and water fountains in the affected area

For those over the age of 50, The Epic and The Summit are opening their doors to the community and will have free shower and water fountain access.

Out of an abundance of caution, Grand Prairie ISD is closed Wednesday because of the ongoing water issue in the city. All morning extracurricular activities are canceled as well. Classes will return to their regular schedule on Thursday.
