DALLAS — Dallas police discovered a tiger Friday during a search warrant in an ongoing animal cruelty investigation.

According to police, they were serving four search warrants at a residence on the 5700 block of Johnson Lane. The tiger was found on the property in an enclosure.

They seized the tiger, as well as dogs, roosters and chickens.

Police said charges are pending, and the investigation is ongoing.

This isn’t the first time a tiger has been found in Texas. The Dallas Morning News reported that police found a tiger in a Dallas home in Aug. 2022. Houston police also found a Tiger wandering a neighborhood in 2021.

The private ownership of tigers and big cats has been a hot topic in recent years, in part, because of the popularity of the docuseries “Tiger King” on Netflix.

On Dec. 20, 2022, the Big Cat Public Safety Act was signed into law. The goal is to stop the private ownership of big cats as pets, and prevent exhibitors from allowing public interaction with big cats, including cubs.
