FORT WORTH, Texas — Approximately 25 schools in the Fort Worth ISD started the first day of school with air conditioning issues, according to district officials.

FWISD sent a letter out to parents detailing the HVAC issues and how it takes the safety and comfort of its students and staff seriously.

“This morning, approximately 25 campuses have reported limited HVAC issues. We want to assure you that we are treating this matter with the utmost urgency. We want to emphasize that the well-being of our students and staff is our primary concern. In response, we have taken swift action by relocating affected students and staff to areas within the school buildings where the air conditioning is functioning optimally,” a letter sent out to FWISD parents said.

The letter from FWISD also said the vast majority of its schools have fully operational HVAC systems, and the school board recently approved $11 million to replace rooftop HVAC units at 22 schools.

This comes as extreme temperatures continue to plague North Texas. Expect temperatures to fall a couple degrees Tuesday to the mid 90s, but by Thursday the temperature and heat indices to max out from 105 to 110.
