DALLAS — Schools everywhere are making strides to execute protective policies designed to thwart violent acts. The Dallas Independent School District is considering a clear backpack protocol for the 2022-2023 school year.

The district is asking parents to take a survey about their thoughts regarding the use of clear backpacks for the 2022-2023 school year. The district said while many factors go into this decision, parent input is important.

If a clear back protocol was to be in place, the district would supply the clear backpacks to students.

According to DISD, a school safety committee that began reviewing ways to enhance campus safety in Fall of 2021. By the mid-spring 2022, one item committee members recommended was to switch to a clear backpack protocol.

DISD said is an ongoing conversation, and the district has not implemented any changes.
