FORNEY, Texas — Forney ISD, located near Dallas, has updated its school dress code to ban certain apparel in hopes of creating a more “professional” look.

With the school year beginning mid-August, students will no longer be allowed to wear any article of clothing with hoods, and only students Pre-K through fourth grade are allowed to wear dresses, skirts and skorts.

The school district says the dress code implemented to improve self-esteem, promote positive behavior and bridge socio-economic differences among students. It hopes that this updated code will create a safe and improved learning environment.

The dress code policy will be implemented at all schools in Forney ISD. Students who violate the dress code will be given an opportunity to correct their outfit. If it is not corrected, students may face in-school suspension until their apparel matches the dress code or their parents bring them appropriate clothing.

Students are allowed to wear solid colored shirts and outerwear, with khaki, navy blue or black slacks, capri pants and shorts. Other articles of clothing that are not allowed at the school include overall pants, leather, suede or denim materials, holes in clothing, sleeveless shirts, T-shirts and hats.
