DALLAS — Following the CDC's new guidelines on mask wearing, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins revised the county’s mask mandate.

Residents no longer need to wear masks in public settings except jails, long-term care facilities and health care settings.

“During the time of high spread in Delta and Omicron, the people and businesses of Dallas county stepped up to protect one another,” Jenkins said. “Although mask are no longer required, they are strongly recommended for immunocompromised individuals in indoor settings outside of their home, or those who are visiting with immunocompromised or medically frail individuals, including the elderly.”

The revised mask order goes into effect at 10 p.m. Friday.

The CDC on Friday announced a change to the metrics it guidelines, shifting from looking at COVID-19 case counts to a more holistic view of risk from the coronavirus to a community. The new recommendations say people living in low to medium transmission areas don’t have to wear a mask.

Dallas County Friday reported a total of 461 COVID-19 cases and 6 deaths.
