LAKE WORTH, Texas — A Euless Police Department detective was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Lake Worth, Texas, on Saturday, and investigators say the other driver involved showed signs of intoxication at the crash scene.
According to Euless police, Lake Worth officers about 1:33 p.m. on Saturday were called to Boat Club Road at Rocky Point Trail. When police arrived, bystanders reported a man involved in the crash was attempting to flee the scene.
The two vehicles involved in the crash, a Jeep Wrangler and a Chevy Impala, were badly damaged. There were four people trapped in the Impala, and members of the Lake Worth Fire Department tended to them.
The driver of the Impala, identified as Det. Alejandro “Alex” Cervantes, was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger was take to John Peter Smith Hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries. Two children sustained serious injuries and were taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center.
The driver of the Jeep Wrangler, identified as 26-year-old Dylan Molina, was taken into custody.
Investigators believe Molina ran a red light and crashed into the Impala on the driver side. Molina is charged with intoxication manslaughter and three counts of intoxication assault.
Cervantes was with the Euless Police Department for seven years and was part of its Police Department Honor Guard Team. Previously, he had worked for eight years with the El Paso Police Department.
