  • Angela West has been released from jail and an investigation is ongoing.

Angela West, 61, was arrested Friday night on a suspicion of driving while intoxicated in northwest Dallas. There was a minor in the vehicle and she is facing a charge of driving while intoxicated with a child under 15.

West, the former Texas Republican Party chairman and a former Florida congressman, posted a video in which he denies his wife was drinking alcohol and states her Breathalyzer test “came up negative.”

In a video statement Allen West titled “We are releasing violent criminals in Texas but arresting grandmas?” the candidate said he is “highly pissed off.”

“I was down in Waco, Texas, having dinner with Ted Nugent and some other people, and I got back to Dallas to find out someone had arrested my wife Angela. She had my grandson Jackson in the backseat of the car,” Allen West said.

Allen West went on to say that during a dinner at P.F. Chang’s preceding the arrest his wife had “water and lemonade.”

“But the thing that upsets me the most is that they took my wife, arrested her, and left my grandson with two Dallas police officers,” Allen West continued.

“This is crap. Now I support the thin blue line but this is insidious. They put my grandson at risk, [in] jeopardy, left him with a couple of police officers and carted his grandmother into jail when she’d had water and lemonade,” Allen West said. “I’m beyond livid and I’m telling you something: The Dallas Country Sheriff’s Office, the Dallas police chief, I want an explanation for this. I want to know who arrested my wife for, quote-unquote, suspected DUI when she had water and lemonade and her Breathalyzer test came up negative.”
