DALLAS — On Tuesday, Dallas police chief Eddie Garcia fired Bryan Riser, the former police officer who was arrested and charged on two counts of capital murder.
According to a press release from the Dallas Police Department, an internal affairs investigation found on March 4, Riser engaged in adverse conduct when he was arrested for two counts of capital murder, and was terminated for his actions.
According to an affidavit, on March 10, 2017, 30-year-old Liza Saenz was found dead in the Trinity River close by Sante Fe Avenue. She was reportedly shot multiple times. The second murder took place Aug. 14, 2017. Police say the victim was kidnapped and later killed on Riser's order.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson also formed a committee to find out why Riser was allowed to stay on the force for a year and a half after he was implicated in the killings.
Riser was with the department since August 2008 and was assigned to the south central patrol division.
Under civil service rules officer riser has the right to appeal his termination.
The Dallas Police Department said they will no longer respond to any questions surrounding the incident due to the ongoing criminal investigation.
