DETROIT — The New Orleans Saints Sunday were eliminated from the playoffs and the team’s assistant coach/tight ends coach Dan Campbell will likely be named the new head coach of the Detroit Lions, ESPN and other sources are reporting.
Born in Clifton, Texas, Campbell played for Glen Rose High School where he was a tailback and tight end. During his senior year, he rushed for over 50 yards, recorded 27 receptions for 423 yards, and is credited with five touchdowns.
Now that New Orleans has been eliminated, the Lions are expected to hire Saints’ Asst HC/TEs Dan Campbell as their next HC, per sources. The two sides still need to work out a deal, but it is not considered an obstacle, and Campbell will be the Lions next head coach.
