Strong to severe storms could unleash very heavy rainfall at times today, making it difficult to safely drive and potentially causing some flash flooding.

Our latest computer models point to some possible 3" to 4" rain accumulations north of the Capital City, with the heaviest expected near Fort Hood, while 2" to 3" rain accumulations look possible from Austin to San Marcos.

If a Flash Flood Warning is issued, avoid travelling if possible and stay on high ground.  Keep in mind, the nearest low water crossing might be in your own backyard.  Where water flows over roads, you should always "Turn Around, Don't Drown."

The peak of the event is expected during the afternoon to early evening hours.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the Austin area until midnight.
