A powerful winter cold front swept through the Austin area with rain briefly turning to some sleet and reported snow flurries overnight while most were sleeping.  We're back to sunshine but with some strong Wednesday winds.  The forecast calls for highs highs in the mid 50s to feel more like 40s through the afternoon.  Grab a jacket or winter coat!

We've seen northerly winds gust up around 30 to 35 mph out there, adding on quite a bit of a wind chill factor.  The winds subside fairly quickly after our 6 p.m. sunset.

Look for temps to drop like a rock tonight, ending up near or just slightly over 30 in the metro areas with rural communities possible dipping into the upper 20s to start tomorrow.  It's a light freeze for almost all of Central TX.

Plan for a good dose of sunshine tomorrow and a pretty quick return of southerly winds, which will help make our Thursday more comfy with daytime highs ending up in seasonable low 60s.

Our next cold front will follow on Friday -- it looks weak and dry -- with 40s and 50s to follow into the weekend.

Another weak cold front will enter the region late Saturday and could help stir up a few thunderstorms Saturday evening through early Sunday.  Looks like we'll actually enjoy a brief warm-up into Monday before another arctic blast arrives next Tuesday.
