A Lower Manhattan subway station that's been closed since Hurricane Sandy is set to finally reopen on Tuesday after nearly five years of repairs.
The new South Ferry station on the 1 line was closed after being flooded by 15 million gallons of saltwater in October 2012.
The extensive damage inside the new station, which opened in March 2009, forced the MTA to put the decommissioned old station back into service several months after the storm.
Riders say they won't miss having to be in the first five cars of the train to get off at the only loop station in the system. The new station will have room for the entire train.
"It's nice. The whole train fits on the platform, so I think it's better," said one commuter.
"I would say it took a while. But I'm glad, actually, things are getting, starting to run now. So t's much better," said another.
The old loop will once again go back into retirement.
