SLATE HILL, N.Y. -- Two teens were killed and three were injured after a crash on Route 6 in Slate Hill, Orange County that ejected all five people from the car.
Troopers say 19-year-old Jared Santillo was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car, 19-year-old Vincent Peluso, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Flowers and cards marked the site where they died and three others were hurt Sunday morning.
“He loved meeting new people and helping people. I loved that kid so much,” said Jared’s brother Paul Santillo.
Police said Peluso couldn't negotiate a curve in the road because he was speeding and the road was wet.
Family members and colleagues of Santillo said Peluso was speeding to get another passenger, Greg Vogler, to the hospital after he fell in a fire.
“He was helping out another kid a burn victim around 2 o'clock last night and the roads were wet and they had a bad accident,” said Santillo.
“People that were involved in this accident were nice people, decent people, good people,” said Prestige Towing and Recovery Owner Sean Brooks.
Brooks said Vogler, who is a former employee at his company, was transported to a burn unit in Pennsylvania.
“Sweet kid, always came to work on time, always came to work, brought no luggage with him, had a beautiful smile," Brooks said.
“Jared I love you so much and I hope to see you again one day,” said Santillo.
