AUSTIN, Texas — Sebastián Driussi, Austin FC’s star midfielder, has transferred to Club Atlético River Plate in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The 28-year-old Driussi scored 51 goals with 22 assists over 115 games in all competitions. He was an All-Star in 2022.
In its announcement Friday, Austin claimed it will receive a team-record transfer fee but did not announce a figure. The move opened a designated player spot.
“Sebastián leaves Austin FC having made a tremendous impact on this club during his three-and-a-half years here,” said the sporting director Rodolfo Borrell. “We wish him and his family nothing but the best as they return to Argentina. He will always be welcomed with open arms in Austin.”
With Driussi’s departure, Austin FC has a Designated Player spot available. Their remaining Designated Players are striker Brandon Vazquez and winger Osman Bukari.
Austin FC will open their 2025 season on Feb. 22 at home against Sporting Kansas City.
