DALLAS — The Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners first played each other in 1990, with the game being renewed annually since 1929. Now the two teams will continue to play each other at the Cotton Bowl through 2036.
A contract extension has been agreed upon by the University of Texas and University of Oklahoma, ensuring that the Allstate Red River Rivalry football game will remain at the Cotton Bowl.
The Dallas Sports Commission and Dallas Tourism Public Improvement District have agreed to raise game fees for each school. As part of this agreement, the City of Dallas will make its largest investment ever in the history of the Cotton Bowl Stadium.
Sweeping enhancements are on the horizon for the Cotton Bowl Stadium with a $140 million, two-year renovation project that will honor its celebrated legacy and distinctive architecture while elevating the fan experience.
The project aims to enhance fans' comfort by widening concourses and adding escalators for easier entry and exit from the stadium.
By Sept. 2026, the first phase of renovations to the west side of the stadium is expected to be finished. A second phase of major renovations to the east side of the stadium is set to be completed by Sept. 2034.
