Alex Stockwell joined the Spectrum News staff in September 2014 as a reporter.

She is a lifelong Texan, graduating from New Braunfels High School – home of the Unicorns – and receiving a degree in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin in 2013.

While on the Forty Acres, Alex worked at Texas Student TV, UT’s student-run television station, eventually serving as sports director. She was also among the first group of interns selected by ESPN to work at Longhorn Network and later became a production assistant for their high school football show.

After graduation, Alex was hired as a news reporter at KVEO – the NBC affiliate station in McAllen, Texas. There, she covered serious issues such as immigration and had several stories picked up by NBC affiliates across the country.

Alex is thrilled to return to Austin to continue her journalism career. When she isn’t reporting, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and loves taking advantage of all there is to do in Austin.

Alex is also an avid sports fan. She especially loves watching professional and collegiate football and basketball. She is a passionate San Antonio Spurs fan and, of course, cheers hard for all Longhorn sports. Alex defied her family’s fandom for the Dallas Cowboys by adopting the Houston Texans as her new team in 2002 – she’s been a diehard fan since, and even convinced her dad to change his allegiance as well.
