AUSTIN, Texas — The City of Austin has recently begun enforcing higher parking fines.
Austin City Council approved some new City Code changes on Feb. 13. These changes include:
- Non-payment for use of a metered space (increasing the fine to $75)
- Parking within an intersection (increasing the fine to $75)
- Parking within 30 feet of a stop sign (increasing the fine to $75)
Blocking bike lanes, EV charging stations and right-of-way closures during events are now parking violations in the city.
Infractions found during a three-month public education period on these new violations will result in educational materials or warnings only.
The usual fine for overdue parking meters was previously $30. The penalty for parking illegally near a stop sign or in an intersection was previously $40.
Residents are encouraged to use the Park ATX app to pay, extend or manage your parking session from your phone. The app lets you add time to your parking session or cancel early for a partial refund.
