NEW ORLEANS — Despite a blowout loss in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, one former Texas Longhorn put up record-breaking numbers for the Kansas City Chiefs offense. Wide receiver Xavier Worthy broke the record for rookie receiving yards in a Super Bowl, finishing with eight receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns.

Worthy was the lone bright spot for a Chiefs offense that struggled to get it going until the game was practically over. Worthy’s first touchdown was a strike from quarterback Patrick Mahomes from 34 yards out late in the third quarter, but by that time Kansas City had fallen behind 34 to 0.

Worthy would score again with just under 2 minutes to go in the fourth quarter on a 50-yard bomb, but it was too little too late as Kansas City would never touch the ball again, and fall 40 to 22.

Worthy surpassed Chris Matthews and Torry Holt, who both finished with 109 yards in their respective Super Bowls. The Texas product is now fifth all time for receiving yards in a single Super Bowl, and is among a group of just 18 receivers to haul in two touchdowns in the big game.

Despite the loss, Worthy put together a strong rookie season, totaling 638 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. With injured wide receiver Rashee Rice expected to return for Kansas City next season, the Chiefs will have no shortage of firepower in 2025.
