HOUSTON — Everything’s bigger in Texas, including people’s appetites.
As football fans across the U.S. prepare for the Super Bowl, one survey found that Texans will probably need to purchase more food and drinks for their watch parties.
An analysis by NJ.bet–an online casino and betting website–found that Houston Texans fans, on average, consume more calories than any other franchise's fans while watching the Super Bowl.
The website surveyed 1,200 NFL fans and found that Texans fans consume 3,548 calories during the Super Bowl, which is more than the 2,000 daily caloric intake recommended by the Food and Drug Administration.
In a close second place, Dallas Cowboys fans on average consume 3,442 calories during the game.
Cowboys fans were also the most likely fanbase to “pregame” with alcohol before kickoff and were named the biggest NFL lightweights, but they weren’t the booziest franchise. That prize goes to Baltimore Ravens fans, who on average consumed 3.8 drinks while watching the Super Bowl.
Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets fans round out the top five fan bases who consume the most calories.
The survey also looked at the most popular foods for Super Bowl watch parties. By far, the No. 1 food was pizza, with 74% of fans making it their top choice. Chips, dip and pretzels came in at No. 2 with 64%, and wings came in at No. 3 with 59%.
According to survey respondents, about 1 in 5 fans were considering cutting back on spending for their Super Bowl watch parties due to prices.
