BOERNE, Texas — A teacher was killed and at least five students were injured when a vehicle crashed through a fence and into a playground at a Montessori school in Boerne on Thursday.
The incident happened on Dec. 19 around 4 p.m. when parents were picking up students after a holiday show at Excelled Montessori Plus in Fair Oaks Ranch.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, one parent loaded her kids into her vehicle before it somehow accelerated and hit another vehicle. Both vehicles crashed into a fence, pinning down children and one faculty member who were in the playground on the other side of the fence.
At least five students were injured and taken to a nearby hospital. The faculty member, who police say was in her 20s, died from her injuries at the scene.
Police say the driver of the vehicle had a “medical history” that may have contributed to the crash. They do not believe she was intoxicated and they don’t expect to file criminal charges.
According to Leslie Komet Ausburn, president of Komet Marketing Communications, a Go Fund Me for the teacher that died is being set up.
The school will be closed Friday and grief and trauma counselors will be available on campus for students and faculty.
Boerne is located about 30 miles northeast of San Antonio.
